Rios and Comella Will Join Other CFP® Professionals in Providing Free Financial Counseling

DAVIS, California—August 24, 2017—Symphony Financial Planning today announced that two of its financial planners, Taylor Rios and Heather Comella, will volunteer at the Greater Sacramento Financial Planning Day on October 21.

At Financial Planning Day, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals provide free one-on-one counseling to members of the public. In addition, the event offers classroom-style educational presentations on personal finance. The goal of this day is to provide resources, education, and advice to members of the community who may not have access to a financial planner and to spread awareness of the financial planning profession to the community.

This will be the fifth year volunteering for Rios, and the second year for Comella. Rios said the experience is so rewarding that she hopes to take part for many more years to come.

“There are too many Americans without access to a financial planner, yet they still have money concerns that they struggle with,” Rios said. “I find such gratification in sitting down with members of our community and helping them gain clarity on financial issues like budgeting or college funding—issues that may be keeping them up at night.”

The volunteer planners do not sell products or give out business cards—a fact that Comella said builds trust.

“As CFP® planners, we know that our advice is ethical, but many people in the community don’t understand what the designation means,” she said. “The ‘no strings attached’ approach helps them trust the integrity of the recommendations they receive.”

The nationwide program provides financial guidance through the collaboration of four nonprofit organizations: the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., the Financial Planning Association, the Foundation for Financial Planning, and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

This year’s Sacramento program is scheduled for Saturday, October 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at West Sacramento City Hall.
